SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, February 19, 2007 - On February 18, 2007, Jonathan Dontigny, an inmate at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary located in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, escaped. His absence was noted during the inmate count at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The management of the Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution was notified immediately.
Police were informed immediately, and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them with all relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of the individual as soon as possible.
Jonathan Dontigny, aged 20, has been serving a sentence of two years, nine months and ten days since August 9, 2005 , for burglary, breaking and entering and possession of a narcotic. He is 5'5" (166 cm) tall and weighs 157 pounds (71 kg). He has brown hair, hazel eyes and a tattoo on his right arm.
The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
