FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LA MACAZA, QC, March 29, 2007 - On March 28, 2007, Gilles Lacombe, an inmate at La Macaza Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died at the Centre hospitalier et Centre de réadaptation Antoine-Labelle in Rivière-Rouge of natural causes.

Gilles Lacombe, 72, had been serving his first prison sentence of 15 years for a range of violent, sexual offences. The inmate, who was found lifeless in his cell yesterday at around 3:30 p.m., was transported to the hospital, where his death was recorded at 4:40 p.m.

A coroner's inquest will be held to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
