FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, April 30, 2007 - Stéphane Duquette, an inmate at Montée St-François Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, died yesterday on April 29, 2007. The inmate was found unconscious in his cell around 9 in the morning during a round by officers. Resuscitation efforts were undertaken until emergency crews arrived. The inmate was later pronounced dead by a doctor.

The inmate's family was notified immediately.

Stéphane Duquette, 38 years of age, had been serving a sentence of three years, two months and five days since March 2002 for various offences involving theft.

The Sûreté du Québec and the Correctional Service of Canada are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death.
