FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, May 4, 2007 - On May 3, 2007, around 2:40 p.m., Émile Girardot, an inmate at Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died of natural causes at the Institution's Health Centre.

Mr. Girardot, 52, had been serving a sentence of five years and three months since May 2005 for sexual assault, trafficking and uttering death threats.

The Sûreté du Québec and Correctional Service of Canada are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
