FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Donnacona, Quebec, August 27, 2007 - On August 25, 2007, a considerable amount of drugs intended for trafficking in the institution were seized from an individual close to the penitentiary reserve of Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary.

The individual was apprehended by preventive security officers and the institution's dog handler. He was then taken into custody by Sûreté du Québec investigators. This individual already had various arrest warrants against him.

Authorities seized 168 grams of hashish, 48 pills of anabolic steroids and 5 syringes, with an institutional value of about $30,000.

The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-355-DONA or (3662)) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan-sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
