FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OFFENDER UNLAWFULLY AT LARGE AT FEDERAL TRAINING CENTRE

LAVAL, Quebec, October 10, 2007 - Claude Fournier, an inmate at the Federal Training Centre, a federal minimum-security penitentiary in Laval, failed to return to the site that he had been authorized to visit, on an unescorted temporary absence, for personal development.

Police were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them with all the relevant information that could lead to the arrest of this individual as quickly as possible.

Claude Fournier, 68, has been serving a life sentence for second-degree murder since January 7, 1969. He has a fair complexion, brown eyes, white hair, stands 1.65 m (5'5") tall and weighs 60 kg (133 lbs). He has a scar on his right wrist and a tattoo on his right arm.

The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The authorities at the Federal Training Centre are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the toll-free phone number at 1-866-231-6495. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
