FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DONNACONA, Quebec, November 5, 2007 - On October 30, 2007, at approximately 9:30 p.m., an inmate received facial injuries at Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary. The inmate underwent surgery on November 1, 2007, and he is currently in stable condition.

Correctional Service Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances of this event. The safety of the public and the Institution was not compromised at any time.

The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-355-DONA or (3662)) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan-sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
