FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, Quebec, December 8, 2007 - On December 8, 2007, Joseph Sabbagh, an inmate at Leclerc Institution, died at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval.

The inmate was pronounced dead by a hospital doctor around 3:15 p.m.

Joseph Sabbagh, 51 years of age, had been serving a sentence of 20 years and 8 months since January 17, 2000, for a string of robberies.

The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
