FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, Quebec, December 14, 2007 - On December 13, 2007, Marc Moise, an inmate at the Federal Training Centre, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, was found hanged in his cell at around 4:50 p.m.

Institutional staff tried immediately to resuscitate the inmate until paramedics arrived. The inmate was transferred to an outside health centre where a doctor pronounced him dead.

Mr. Moise, aged 58, had been serving a life sentence since 1999 for attempted murder and murder in the second degree.

A coroner's inquest will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also investigate the surrounding circumstances.
