LAVAL, Quebec, January 28, 2008 - At approximately 10:30 a.m. on January 27, 2008 at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, 56 grams of hashish valued at $5,600 if trafficked in the institution, were seized by the alert officers on duty. A female visitor attempted to smuggle the drugs into the institution by hiding them in a bag of chips.
The matter was turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and charges could be laid against the visitor and the inmate concerned, who is currently in segregation.
The authorities at Drummond Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1 866 889-6039) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault or loan-sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
