FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COWANSVILLE, Quebec, February 21, 2008 - Around 10:15 a.m., Maurice Roy, an inmate at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died in his cell following an incurable illness. He was pronounced dead by the physician on site at the time of the incident.

As with all inmate deaths, the police and the coroner will conduct an inquest. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Maurice Roy, 66, had been serving a live sentence since January 25, 1991, for second-degree murder.
