FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM FEDERAL TRAINING CENTRE

LAVAL, Quebec, March 20, 2008 - On March 20, 2008, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Neil Stewart, a minimum-security inmate at the Federal Training Centre, escaped from the institution.

The Sûreté du Québec and the Canada Border Services Agency were informed immediately, and Correctional Service Canada provided them with all of the relevant information that could help apprehend this inmate as soon as possible.

Neil Stewart is 34 years old and has been serving a first life sentence since May 12, 2005, for first-degree murder with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

He is 1.71 metres tall and weighs 60 kilograms. He has blue eyes and brown hair.

Correctional Service Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this event.
