FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT LECLERC INSTITUTION

LAVAL, Quebec, May 26, 2008 - On May 26, 2008, Jeffrey Lalonde, an inmate under supervision at Leclerc Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary, was pronounced dead at 3:18 a.m.

Mr. Lalonde, 36, had been serving a life sentence since January 1990 for second degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr. Lalonde's death.

The Correctional Service of Canada and the Coroner's Office will work with the SQ on the investigation.
