FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT COWANSVILLE INSTITUTION

COWANSVILLE, Quebec, June 12, 2008 - On June 12, 2008, Pascal Fournier Bressani, an inmate at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security penitentiary, committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell.

Mr. Bressani was 36 years old and was serving a sentence of 12 years for robbery. Next of kin have been notified.

The police and the coroner are required to investigate all inmate deaths. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
