FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

END OF DISTURBANCE AT COWANSVILLE INSTITUTION

COWANSVILLE, Quebec, July 2, 2008 - At 7:05 p.m., the inmates protesting outside Cowansville Institution buildings agreed to return to their cells. The entire incident unfolded peacefully. For the time being, the inmates are confined to their cells to ensure the routine functioning of the penitentiary.

Staff are now working to restore normal operations at the penitentiary. In accordance with routine procedure, CSC will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
