DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec, July 14, 2008 - At around 9:45 a.m. on July 14, 2008, Alain Larocque, an inmate at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, was found dead in his cell. The inmate's family has been notified.
Unit staff immediately tried to resuscitate the inmate until the institution's Health Care Services staff arrived.
Alain Larocque, 41, had been serving an 11-year sentence since August 22, 2003, for property and personal injury offences.
As with all inmate deaths, the police and the coroner will conduct an inquest. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
