FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DEATH AT THE REGIONAL RECEPTION CENTRE
LAVAL, Quebec, July 21, 2008 - On July 21, 2008, Hervé Fortin, an inmate at the Regional Reception Centre, a maximum-security federal penitentiary, was found dead. His death was pronounced at 8:23 a.m. at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval.
Mr. Fortin, 46, had been serving a 2-year sentence for fraud since April 2008.
The Sûreté du Québec was called in to investigate the circumstances leading to Mr. Fortin's death.
The Correctional Service of Canada and the Coroner's Office will also conduct an investigation.
