COWANSVILLE, Quebec, July 22, 2008 - At around 10:10 a.m. on July 21, 2008, staff members at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, seized a significant amount of drugs.
Two packages full of drugs were found in the activities area. A short distance from there, but outside the penitentiary's perimeter, another package of the same type and a pair of binoculars were also found.
A content analysis revealed 165 grams of marijuana, 50 grams of hashish and 64 grams of tobacco, for a total institutional value of $35,000.
The authorities at Cowansville Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line, Info-Crime 1-866-231-6195, for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality. A security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
