CONTRABAND AT DRUMMOND INSTITUTION

DRUMMONDVILLE (Quebec), September 22, 2008 - At about 10:38 a.m. on September 21, 2008, a quantity of drugs was seized at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, as the result of the vigilance of officers on duty. A female visitor tried to give an inmate 34.5 grams of hashish, for an institutional value of $3,450.

The matter was turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the inmate involved has been placed in segregation.

The authorities at Drummond Institution wish to remind citizens that a toll-free telephone line (1-866-889-6039) is available for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
