COWANSVILLE, Quebec, September 29, 2008 - On September 27, 2008, staff members from Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, seized 43 grams of hashish from a female visitor, after a positive indication by the drug detector dog. This quantity of drugs has an institutional value of $4,300.
There are a number of tools available to CSC that it uses continuously to keep drugs out of institutions. These include searching offenders, visitors, institutions and cells, as well as using ion scanners and detector dogs.
The authorities at Cowansville Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line, Info-Crime 1-866-231-6195, for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality. A security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
