FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAJOR OUTAGES AT LA MACAZA INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, October 30, 2008 - Due to bad weather conditions that caused power and telephone outages in the Laurentians region, La Macaza Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary, is currently closed to visitors and regular activities have been suspended. No telephone communication is possible. Basic electricity is provided by a generator and water is delivered by a water tank truck.

The public's safety is not compromised in any way and essential services for staff and inmates are being maintained.
