FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, Quebec, November 7, 2008 - At around 7:30 p.m. on November 7, Gérard Plaisance, an inmate at Montée St-François Institution, died of natural causes in the Archambault Institution hospital.

Mr. Plaisance was 86 years old and had been serving a sentence of 5 years, 8 months and 11 days for sexually motivated offences. Management is currently trying to contact next of kin to inform them of his death.

As in any case involving the death of an inmate, the police and coroner are required to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also be looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
