FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM STE ANNE DES PLAINES INSTITUTION

LAVAL, Quebec, November 12, 2008 - At around 11:30 a.m. on November 12, 2008, Pierre Gagnon, a minimum security inmate at Ste Anne des Plaines Institution, escaped during a temporary absence for community service.

The Sûreté municipale de Terrebonne and Sûreté du Québec were advised immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them with all relevant information that may lead to the apprehension of the inmate as soon as possible.

Pierre Gagnon, 59, has been serving since 1973 his first life sentence with eligibility after 7 years for arson (1973), manslaughter (1975) of his former spouse, escape (1975), assault and mischief (1991), assault with a weapon (2000), and being unlawfully at large (2005).

He is 1.7 metres tall and weighs 90 kg. He has brown eyes and brown hair.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
