Drummondville, Quebec, December 6, 2008 - The temporary absence of an inmate at Drummond Institution, a medium-security penitentiary, was terminated when the officers escorting him seized a quantity of narcotics intended for him. The event took place at a funeral home where the inmate had been escorted. A family member gave the inmate 8.4 grams of hashish with an institutional value of $840.
The matter will be turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and charges may be laid against the persons involved. The inmate is currently in segregation.
The authorities at Drummond Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line, 1-866-889-6039, for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality. A security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
