FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

SAINT-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, Quebec, January 2, 2009 - André Daoust, a federal offender, died of natural causes on January 2, 2009, at Archambault Institution.

Mr. Daoust was 66 years old and had been serving a cumulative federal sentence of 64 years, 9 months and 1 day, which began in 1967, for a string of offences primarily against a person, causing serious harm.

The police and the coroner will investigate, and the Correctional Service of Canada will be looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
