FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT MONTÉE ST FRANCOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, Quebec, January 5, 2009 - At around 9:30 this morning, Yves LASALLE, an inmate at Montée St François Institution, a minimum security federal penitentiary, died during an outside movement of causes that have yet to be determined. He was taken by ambulance to the Cité de la Santé de Laval hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Lasalle, 54, had been serving a life sentence for violent offences against the person. His family was notified.

The police and the coroner are required to investigate all inmate deaths. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
