FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, March 16, 2009 – The Correctional Service of Canada, in partnership with the Association for Recreational and Cultural Activities with people in Detention (ARCAD), is holding a charity auction of works of art by offenders on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Maison des arts de Laval.  The works have been created by offenders serving sentences at a federal institution, or in the community.

The activity begins at 6 PM with a reception, followed by the auction at 7 PM. Paintings, sculptures, drawings and stained-glass objects have been donated by the artists.

All proceeds from the sale will be donated to Centraide and other charities. The auction gives offenders the opportunity to contribute to society by making use of their artistic talents to help charitable organizations.
