COWANSVILLE — On March 20, 2009, an officer patrolling the perimeter of Cowansville Institution, a medium‑security federal penitentiary, discovered 87.5 grams of hashish packed into a ball.
The institutional value of the contraband is estimated at $8,750.
CSC has a number of tools to continuously keep drugs out of its institutions. These include searching offenders, visitors, institutions and cells, as well as using ion scanners and detector dogs.
Cowansville Institution wishes to remind the public that there is a toll‑free number (1‑866‑231‑6195) for reporting any pressure exerted on a visitor by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loansharking. This information is kept confidential and will be followed up by a security intelligence officer.
