DEATH – DONNACONNA INSTITUTION

Donnaconna, Quebec, May 30, 2009 -- Roger Bouchard, an inmate at Donnaconna Institution, a maximum-security federal institution, was transported by ambulance to the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Laval after having been found unconscious in his cell. Although the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, the death is not considered suspicious.

The inmate was pronounced dead by a hospital doctor at around 9:00 a.m.

Mr. Bouchard, 45, had been serving his second federal sentence of 30 months for charges involving break and enter, theft, assault peace officer (two counts), uttering threats, fail to comply with a condition (two counts) and possession of narcotics.

As in any case involving the death of an inmate, the police and coroner are required to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also be looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
