FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE UNLAWFULLY AT LARGE

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES (QUEBEC) – At around 1 p.m. on June 18, 2009, Frédéric Perreault, an inmate at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, escaped while on unescorted temporary absence.

Sûreté municipale de Terrebonne and Sûreté du Québec were immediately notified and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them with all relevant information that could help apprehend the inmate as soon as possible.

Frédéric Perreault is 39 years old and has been serving his first prison sentence of four years and eight months for robbery since 2007.

He is 1 m 75 (5’9") tall and weighs 87 kg (192 lbs). He has brown eyes and hair. He has several tattoos on his body as well as scars on his abdomen and right hand.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.

Authorities at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the toll free phone number at 1-800-348-1204. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer provides follow-up.
