MAJOR DRUG SEIZURE AT DONNACONA INSTITUTION

Donnacona, Quebec, September 1, 2009 – On August 29, 2009, at Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal penitentiary, staff seized 5 grams of heroin with a total institutional value of about $10,000 from a visitor during a search. Staff also searched the visitor’s car and seized two packages of narcotics. The drugs were turned over to the Sûreté du Québec, which arrested the visitor.

The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind the public that there is a toll free number at 1-866-355-DONA or (3662) for reporting any pressure exerted on a visitor by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault or loansharking. This information is kept confidential and will be followed up by a security intelligence office.
