FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH OF AN INMATE AT DRUMMOND INSTITUTION

Drummondville, Quebec, September 17, 2009 – On September 16, 2009, at around 8:10 p.m., Antoine Zarzour, an inmate at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died following a lengthy illness at the Archambault Institution hospital in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.

Antoine Zarzour was 55 years old and had been serving a life sentence since May 18, 1978, for second-degree murder, assault with a weapon, breaking and entering, escape from lawful custody, and public mischief.

Correctional Service Canada and the Coroner will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this death.
