FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT THE REGIONAL RECEPTION CENTRE

Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec — On November 23, 2009, Gaston Gagnon, an inmate at the Regional Reception Centre, a maximum security federal penitentiary, died of apparent natural causes.

Gagnon, 58, was serving a two-year sentence for assault.

As in all cases involving an inmate death, the police and the coroner were called in to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
