FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM MONTÉE SAINT-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

Laval, Quebec, February 17, 2010 — On the evening of February 16, 2010, André Chartrand escaped from Montée Saint-François Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary.

The Sûreté du Québec was notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to cooperate with police to locate the offender as soon as possible.

André Chartrand, 37, had been serving a six-year sentence for drug-related offences, including conspiracy, possession and trafficking, since June 11, 2008. He is 1.85 m tall and weighs approximately 121 kg. He has brown hair, blue eyes and a light complexion. He speaks French.

CSC will be conducting an investigation or a fact finding review to determine the circumstances surrounding this event.

Authorities at Montée Saint-François Institution are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the toll-free phone number at 1-866-210-5652. This information is kept confidential and will be followed up by a security intelligence officer.
