FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, DONNACONA INSTITUTION

Donnacona, Quebec, April 28, 2010 – An inmate from Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal penitentiary, sustained injuries currently deemed to be serious following an altercation with a fellow inmate.

The incident occurred on April 22 at approximately 7:00 p.m. in a common room during a regular activity period. The inmate was transferred to a local hospital for treatment of head injuries. He is still under observation.

The aggressor has been placed in segregation. The Sûreté du Québec was informed of the incident. The Correctional Service of Canada is also conducting a fact finding review.

The area where the altercation took place was closed following the incident and normal routine resumed the next morning. At no time was public safety compromised.
