FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE OF AN INMATE FROM STE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES INSTITUTION

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, June 4, 2010 - At around 8 p.m. on June 3, Daniel COOK, an inmate at Ste-Anne-des-Plaines Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, escaped while on escorted temporary absence.

Montreal police were immediately notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them with all of the relevant information that might lead to the apprehension of this inmate as quickly as possible.

Daniel COOK, 53, has been serving an indeterminate sentence for first-degree murder since 1997.

He is 1.65 m tall (5’5") and weighs 67 kg (148 lbs). He has brown eyes and a shaved head (brown hair). He has tattoos on his arms and a scar under his bottom lip.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities at Ste-Anne-des-Plaines Institution are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the toll-free phone number at 1-800-348-1204. This information is kept confidential and will be followed up by a security intelligence officer.
