FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

Laval, Québec, June 8, 2010 – An inmate from Archambault Institution, a medium‑security federal penitentiary located in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, sustained injuries currently deemed to be serious following an altercation with a fellow inmate.

The incident occurred on June 5, at approximately 10:20 p.m., in the victim’s cell. The inmate was transferred to a local hospital for treatment of a serious jaw injury. He is still under observation.

The aggressor has been placed in administrative segregation. The Correctional Service of Canada is conducting a fact‑finding review.

At no time was public safety compromised.
