FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATES INJURED AT DRUMMOND INSTITUTION

Laval, Quebec, June 21, 2010 - At around 1:15 p.m. on June 18, 2010, at Drummond Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary, a fight broke out between two inmates in a recreation area. Both inmates had to be taken to hospital to treat serious injuries to one inmate's face and the other inmate's hand.

We do not know the reason for the fight at this time. The Correctional Service of Canada is currently conducting an internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Both inmates are back at the Institution and have been placed in segregation. No staff members were injured during the incident, and public safety was not compromised at any time.
