FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Inmate Injured at Drummond Institution

Laval, Quebec, July 14, 2010 – On July 12, 2010, at approximately 3:30 p.m., at Drummond Institution, a medium-security penitentiary, an altercation between two inmates occurred in a cellblock. One was injured and taken to hospital for treatment of serious nasal injuries.

The Correctional Service of Canada is currently conducting an internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The injured inmate has returned to the institution. Both individuals are in segregation. No staff member was injured, and public safety was never compromised during the incident.
