INMATE INJURIES – DONNACONA INSTITUTION

DONNACONA, November 1, 2010 – At around 3:30 p.m. on October 30, 2010, at Donnacona Institution, a maximum‑security federal penitentiary, two inmates were involved in a fistfight in an exercise yard. One was knocked unconscious and was immediately taken to the institution’s health care centre by correctional officers. The inmate was then transferred to a hospital in the area for further assessment. He is currently under observation and his injuries are not life‑threatening.

The Sûreté du Québec was informed of the incident and the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the situation. The safety of the public, employees and other inmates was not compromised at any time.
