INMATE INJURIES – COWANSVILLE INSTITUTION

LAVAL, Quebec, November 3, 2010 – Around 1:25 p.m. on October 29, 2010, at Cowansville Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary, an inmate sustained serious injuries during an altercation involving three individuals in a range. Correctional officers were quickly sent to the area and verbal orders were issued to stop the fight. The inmates complied and were placed in segregation. Nurses assessed the inmates and one was sent to an outside hospital for serious injuries to the left eye. The two other inmates sustained minor injuries.

The Sûreté du Québec was informed of the incident and the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the situation. The safety of the public, employees and other inmates was not compromised at any time.
