FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH AT DRUMMOND INSTITUTION

LAVAL, Quebec, November 8, 2010 – On November 7, 2010, at around 7:10 a.m., Jobie Annahatak, an inmate at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died at a Laval hospital.

Mr. Annahatak, 52, began serving a two-year, three-month sentence in March 2010 for sexual assault and failure to comply with a supervision and parole order. Mr. Annahatak died following a long illness. His family has been notified.

As in all cases involving an inmate death, the police and the coroner were called in to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the death.
