FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH OF AN INMATE AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

Laval, Quebec, November 18, 2010 – On November 17, 2010, Mario Lafranchise, an inmate a Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, died at Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval. He died of natural causes.

Mr. Lafranchise was 50 years old and had been serving a sentence of 8 years since 2004 for breaking and entering with intent, robbery (3 counts), using an imitation firearm, conspiracy to commit a crime and armed robbery.

In all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner are called to investigate. Correctional Service Canada will also examine the circumstances surrounding this death.
