FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT LA MACAZA INSTITUTION

Laval, QC, December 29, 2010 - On December 29, 2010, Pierre Beaupré, an inmate at La Macaza Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died.

Beaupré, 57, had been serving a life sentence for second degree murder since December 1981. His next of kin have been notified of his death. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
