Death at La Macaza Institution

Laval, QC, February 7, 2011 – On February 5, 2011, René Guillemette, an inmate at La Macaza Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died of apparent natural causes.

Guillemette, 68, had been serving a sentence for sexual assaults since December 2008. His next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and coroner are called to investigate. The Correctional Service Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
