DEATH AT THE REGIONAL RECEPTION CENTRE

Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, February 25, 2011 – On February 25, 2011, François Lévesque, an inmate at the Regional Reception Centre, a multi-level federal penitentiary in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, died of apparent natural causes. He was found unconscious in his cell at approximately 6:25 a.m. Institutional staff started CPR and continued to do so until the paramedics took over.

Lévesque, 70 years old, had been serving a sentence of 3 years for sexual offences since December 2010. His next of kin have been notified of his death.

In all cases involving an inmate death, the police and the coroner were called in to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
