FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT STE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES INSTITUTION

Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec, April 18, 2011 – On April 15, 2011, Yvon Hébert, an inmate at Ste‑Anne-des-Plaines Institution, a federal minimum-security penitentiary located in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, died of apparent natural causes at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval where he had been receiving care since April 12.

Hébert, 59, had been serving a sentence of 2 years and 6 months for weapon trafficking, possession of weapons for the purpose of trafficking and possession of substances for the purpose of trafficking since October 2010.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner are called in to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
