Laval, Quebec, May 18, 2011 – On May 17, 2011, at approximately 9:20 p.m., correctional officers found two balls containing a total of 122 grams of marijuana in the outside yard of Leclerc Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary in Laval.
The estimated institutional value of the drugs seized is $12,000.
As part of its Transformation Agenda, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from being brought into institutions in order to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone and promote offender rehabilitation. CSC also works in partnership with the police to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to bring contraband into the institutions.
Info-Crime (450-664-6702) is a free telephone number available for reporting any pressure exerted on a visitor by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault or loansharking. This information is kept confidential and will be followed up by a security intelligence officer.
