FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laval, Quebec, May 20, 2011 – A fire alarm was activated this afternoon at Port-Cartier Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary, due to smoke coming from one of the ranges. The institutional fire brigade and fire fighters were called.
No flames were observed. The range was evacuated and inmates were relocated to a different section of the institution.
The situation is calm at the institution. Ensuring the safety and security of staff, inmates and the public remains the highest priority for the Correctional Service of Canada.
