Laval, Quebec, June 3, 2011 – On June 23, 2011, at 10 a.m., Guy Chrétien, an inmate from Montée St‑François Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, failed to return to the penitentiary following an unescorted temporary absence.
The police was immediately notified. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) shared all relevant information and is actively cooperating with police to locate the individual as soon as possible.
Guy Chrétien, 67, has been serving a life sentence for second degree murder since July 3, 1973. He is 168 cm (5’6”) tall and weighs 86 kg (190 lbs). He has grey hair, blue eyes and a light complexion.
CSC will be conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this event. Only those offenders who are assessed as having a low risk to public safety are placed in a minimum security institution.
Authorities at Montée St-François Institution are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the toll-free phone number at 1-866-210-5652. This information is kept confidential and will be followed up by a security intelligence officer.
